Cheerful j-pop with some ballads thrown in. Tracks 1 and 6 are classic
fan favourites.
Hekiru doesn't sing that well, but she sounds very bright and
energetic. |

No Make Girl |

I think this is the weakest of Hekiru's albums. Most of the songs
are very energetic, but corny as all hell. The style is a little
stronger and harder than before, but the song selection just
isn't very good. Even worse is Hekiru's singing. She switched to
a new singing style, trying to learn how to sing properly with
more power. While the effort is appreciated, the result certainly
isn't. The only things to recommend this album are "Koi no Race
Queen" and the name of the album itself. ^^ |

A vast improvement over No Make Girl. Not only is the
singing significantly better, the song selection is also very
good. In addition to
fast songs that are closer to pop-rock, it also has some soft
ballads. |

Definitely overall Hekiru's best CD to date. Hekiru herself is extremely
pleased with it. She had a very large involvement in its creation,
and the songs are mostly pop-rock with a hard sound that the
strong electric guitar emphasis contributes to. The singing quality
is excellent, though not as consistent as I had hoped. Still, it
is very obvious that Hekiru put in great effort in recording this. |

Face to Face |
|
Comments While I don't like Hekiru's new singing style, in terms of quality this CD more than holds its own in the top ranks. All the songs are really well arranged and the instrumentals are excellent, especially the electric guitar. There are some very good songs, with a unique blend of modern pop melodies and old-fashioned rock guitar or piano . This is a really really good CD, and the only thing stopping me from embracing it whole is that, with a couple exceptions, this isn't the rock that Hekiru has been expousing for the last year and a half. Still, this is good. Buy it.
Note: The first press CD comes in a special three-sided digipack,
which is a thick glossy-paper case that unfolds out. |

RIGHT BESIDE YOU |
|
Comments It's difficult to give an objective opinion of this album. Overall, I don't think it's a bad CD, although it definitely is a large departure from Hekiru's last two albums. Her previous producer's contract was terminated, and the difference is very clear in the arrangement of the songs as well as the song selection, which consists of gentler pop melodies. I'm not adverse to the sound itself, which has a rough, "edgy" quality that spices up the simplicity of the arrangement. Hekiru's voice, too, has finally started to come into its own. Favourites include "Koi", "G-sen jyou", "REAL LOVE", and the rearranged "Akai hana" for its brilliant intro. Still, no one song really packs a punch, and I am left wondering what could have been, had Hekiru continued on the same path...
God, what an awesome cover though! |

b-side you ~B-SIDE COLLECTION~ |
|
Comments What an unforgivable pun! b-side you is not an original album, but a collection of all the coupling songs (B-Side songs) from the singles that Hekiru has released since her debut. For any fan who has yet to pick up the singles individually, this CD is just about the perfect release. There are some excellent songs here, from pop tunes to ballads to hard rock. Even if you own all the singles, this still makes for a nice collector's item. Highly recommended, even though it fails to address the lack of inclusion of the two YAT! theme songs "Dame yo! Dame yo! Dame yo!!" and "Moon Light" in any album.
The first press CD has a different cover (shown left) and includes an illustration
card of Hekiru. |

PRECIOUS GARDEN |
|
Comments
Hekiru's 8th album featuring six songs composed by Hekiru herself, with all arrangements
by Akashi Masao. The most impressive thing about this album is probably its diversity
and variety. There are no fillers here; each song possesses its own distinct sound courtesy
of Akashi's imaginative arrangements. In fact, it can be argued that the original songs are
more interesting than the singles because of their unconventional instrumentals. Hekiru's
compositions themselves run the gamut from painfully cheery pop to true hard rock, so your
actual mileage may vary depending on your musical tastes. Unlike Hekiru's previous album,
however, PRECIOUS GARDEN has a unity provided by a surprisingly strong undercurrent of
rock 'n' roll, so aside from the dearth of singles (5 out of 11 tracks), it is a high quality
album that no fan should overlook. |
